Des loups à crinière se noient dans une ferme soutenue par Rabobank ; le gouvernement de l’État exige des mesures.
Several investigations in recent years have revealed the granting of financing in deforested areas in the Amazon and Cerrado
The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved a rule that prohibits financing for rural producers under current environmental embargoes. The measure was published after a series of reports by Repórter Brasil that revealed the granting of credit to clients with deforested areas in the Amazon and Cerrado.
The new rule provides for the blocking of credits for producers with environmental irregularities, even if the property is not associated with the financing granted by the bank. This could prevent the granting of credits to those fined for illegal deforestation, as in the case of farmers with areas embargoed by Ibama who purchased tractors and agricultural machinery with the bank’s contribution .
Repórter Brasil revealed how producers use legal loopholes to obtain financing, such as dividing the same farm into different rural registries and granting credit in areas in the Cerrado . In June 2023, the Central Bank announced a new resolution to prohibit credit in all biomes, but two months before it came into effect, Repórter Brasil showed that farmers in Mato Grosso with embargoed areas accessed financing.
