Recommendations to the Central Bank of Brazil and financial institutions regarding the livestock sector

Fiar Finance Guide Brazil, Greenpeace Brazil and the Forests & Finance Coalition have published a document with recommendations to the Central Bank of Brazil regarding financial regulation for the meat production sector.

The recommendations presented were drawn up based on a mapping of the stakeholders involved in the different stages of the meat chain and the existing legislation on granting credit for the meat chain with regard to environmental and climate issues.

Considering that access to regulated credit is through the National Financial System, and based on its hierarchical structure, we were able to highlight the gaps still present in the regulation. Overcoming these challenges and adhering to the recommendations outlined in this document should ensure a more sustainable meat production and supply chain by making the financial sector’s financing in Brazil more accountable.
